About the Client
Veritone is a US-based AI technology company, known for aiWARE – an AI ecosystem serving security, government, legal, and media sectors.
Veritone Contact is a data collection application for vehicle and pedestrian stops following the RIPA standard (Racial and Identity Profiling Act – AB 953). The solution was developed together with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and multiple police departments.
It helps officers input stop data faster, reduce review workload, and ensure accurate RIPA submissions.
The Challenge
Under the RIPA – Racial and Identity Profiling Act (AB 953) in California, all law enforcement agencies must document and report detailed data for each pedestrian or vehicle stop.
However, officers spend a significant amount of time filling out RIPA forms because data entry can only be done at the office or handwritten, leading to delays and higher risk of mistakes.
In addition, police operations must be transparent, ensuring all stops are performed fairly and not impacted by race, gender, or personal bias.
To solve this, Veritone needed a fast, accurate, easy-to-use, and legally compliant solution that allows officers to enter data directly in the field, automate review processes, and support transparent analytics.
SETA Solution
SETA International developed Veritone Contact – a smart platform for collecting and analyzing stop data, in collaboration with the California DOJ and local police agencies.
The design and development of the Intelligent Data Entry App include:
- Collect data from officers during pedestrian or vehicle stops.
- Automatically display required questions based on previous answers (logic forms), reducing data entry time by 50–75%.
- Build user interfaces and role-based access (Admin – Analyst – Reviewer – Officer).
- Integrate GPS mapping to automatically capture location data.
- Develop multi-platform support (mobile & desktop) and offline mode for field operations, syncing when internet is available.
- Build visual dashboards for analysts and supervisors to review charts by RIPA criteria such as race, gender, stop reason, outcome, age, etc.
- Apply K-12 Law rules for cases involving students.
Business Impact
The improvements SETA brought to Contact deliver real benefits to law enforcement agencies:
- Significantly reduce RIPA data entry time: Smart forms help officers enter information much faster than handwriting or legacy systems.
- Improve accuracy and reduce errors: Clear interface and logic-based questions prevent missing fields.
- Better analytics for Analysts: Detailed filters and dashboards help monitor stop trends, compliance, and generate reports.
- Multi-device support – work anywhere: Officers can input data directly at the scene, even without internet
- Broad adoption across agencies: Contact is being used by large organizations including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Air Force (USAF), the U.S. Navy, and multiple police departments in California, Florida, and Illinois.
- Expand revenue for Veritone: Contact is offered as a subscription service, supporting scalable and stable usage.
